Emailed Photo Feb 17, 2011What a sweet looking little fluffer nutter. This was one photo I was sent of her along with another one of her with her sister. Much like babies, all puppies are adorable, Its the on site inspection and testing that determines if they will become part of our family and get the honor of stealing our hearts.
Naming this one was a chore. I have always had the habit of naming our dogs in pairs. With that in mind the options were Wilma, Ethel or Ginger. Ginger won my vote but to be fair, we decided we would drop names in a jar and at an appointed time draw them out as a family and decide from there. What ever the name was that won out Mom wasn't happy with it. So our lovely daughter conceded and Ginger it was. Fred n Ginger who could forget such a coupe?! Now here is where I started to learn more about the process of registering your animals. Fred was AKC and when we bought Ginger papers were offered but for an additional fee which at the time was not possible. I never knew to ask about the registration type I just assumed being a pure bred and coming from a breeder, that she would be registered with AKC as well. It was actually months before I had the idea that I wanted her registered as I was edging towards having all 4 varieties and that one day would hope to have a litter or two for the experience more than anything else. I wrote to the breeder and asked if she would send me the papers. As it turned out she never registered the litter. I explained to her that I was now going to register her. She was very understanding and cooperative. She registered the litter so that I could now obtain the paper work to register our pup. Well big surprise, Gingers parents were not both AKC. Only one was and the guidelines of AKC require that Both Parents need to be AKC in order to register the litter and or the particular pup one has purchased. They did inform me that I could petition them if there was a strong line /genealogy for an exception to be considered. I did indeed do this and it was denied. The parents were registered through United where dual registration is accepted. I registered Ginger through United. Is there a difference? Does it mean anything significant? Well as I am writing this I decided to look for information that would compare apples to oranges. What I did find was not impressive. Not in regards to either AKC or UABR but in regards to unprofessional Trash talkers who do not use status or facts to provide educated information towards UABR. I can attest to the fact that my dog Ginger did NOT come from a puppy mill but because she was a result from a litter born to an AKC parent and a United she did not fall under the strict guidelines of AKC in having to have both AKC parents. I believe it comes down to personal preference. Know what you want and what's important to you and your goals. I will include a button for each for a reference so that you may research for yourself. know that there are other registries out there as well. Regardless of the Breed both registry's have much to offer either as an owner or a Breeder. The Staff of each are very friendly informative and professional. Don't be afraid to ask and let them know if you are new to this and may not know what to ask. They are the professional and are there to assist you in helping your furry friends to have the best possible life and care available to them. Contact Breeders. Most are willing to help and do not mind corresponding with you. They too can be helpful in giving tips to help you along your path with your new friends as well. Most important talk to your veterinarian. Being new to the state and area we had to find every type of Doctor you can imagine. We decided to use as close to local as possible. Support your local business has always appealed to us and it was fortunate that there was a vets office less than a mile away. I just love our veterinarian and his staff. We have been with them for 4 years now and I couldn't be happier, |
MY New ToyMuch like with our baby girl, It was normal to come home baring some small token that says "I was thinking of you while I was away from you and I got this for you" aka "I love you and intend on spoiling you every chance I get"!
Yes my secret is finally out. This is no furry stuffy, not a bone from Hannafords and no bacon flavored treats from a bag. This is a live furry little replica of me ...(Seen in Fred's Thought Bubble). One of the best things I have discovered with this breed is that they are so very accommodating and adaptable. Fred took to Ginger as readily as he did Milly the Cat. Ginger actually put a damper in his good buddy relationship he had with Milly. They would play and roll around and hang out quite a bit of the time. But once Ginger entered the picture he drifted away from Milly. Perhaps in their own little world and doggy language Ginger may have educated Fred as to where his priorities should be. Our gifts from Jehovah."Some of the greatest blessing we experience in life are the precious moments caught in an image. Relived for the warming of our hearts." With each King Charles we discovered different medical issues that are not particular to the breed but a learning curve none the less.
As you can see here Ginger has a brownish coloring in the eye area. This is called tear staining. There is a medication that helps with this called Angel eyes. I chose not to use it as the condition was more of an annoyance than anything. I kept her face washed and that has worked for the most part. Fred had difficulties with anal glands which is common in small breeds. Unfortunately the issue was frequent and he had to have them removed. He has faired exceptionally well since. Grooming in this breed is minimal. Mostly combing of the ears n tail which if done on a regular basis is no problem. Once or twice a week. There is no need for clipping however I have chose to clip Fred's ears and trim him as his hair is curly and he looks like a puffy pirate with an Alfalfa Doo. His ears are thick and harder to keep clean as they get long n hang in their food n water. They are not show dogs so it was not a big deal to trim them shorter. Ginger's ear didn't grow like Fred's and has only had a trim to shape them a bit. She requires barely a thing and its quite comical when I round them all up for grooming and she slowly hides away. One pass of the comb across her length ways and one in each ear and she is finished where as with Fred and Trixy it can be a good 10 minute job for each as the little hair at the back under side of the ears can be a little tricky. Its the personality of each one when they are faced with different aspects of life that are comical to say the least. Well this was it, I was hooked. I had decided for sure I wanted one of each variety for sure! I was always looking on the internet at puppies for sale checking with pet shops but eventually I decided I would never again buy from a pet store. Breeders only. I don't recall the particulars in finding the next one. Our Dark n Tan. I think my sister n I both had our eye on the one we found in Schenectady. This was a find that would benefit me from that point on. We drove down to the address and found that we were actually meeting the breeder at her sisters house who was also a breeder but primarily had the Ruby. This little beauty was already named and a bit older so we kept her name with what she was already used to. Enter our Dark n Tan Trixy. . |
